week 2

I know I know I am far behind on my postings. I started a new job and I just now have the time to catch up. I liked this week two assignment. The only issue i had was on step 6 for some reason my number are not the same as the results given in the example.

Week 9

Q1: Which tool did you use? Was there any noticeable difference between its results and the results from
the instructions?
Intersect, there seems to be more water (little circles) or more polygons.

Q2: Which tool did you use here? Why?
Erase, because it erased all the camp sites in the conservation areas.

Q3: How many features are in this layer? What is the area of the largest feature? What is the area of the
smallest feature?
6 total, are of the smallest feature was 10552368 sq meters.
I liked this lab it put in perspective how GIS data can be used in a real world application. Although I did have trouble with my arcmap program at home not have all of the overlays, I ended having do redo the whole lab on the remote server.

week 6

I liked this map a lot better than last weeks. For starters my RMS for uwf_n was 9.8085, I put a lot of points in it and seemed to get a lower RMS every time. For uwf_s1 I used 2nd order polynomial, I wanted to use 3rd but it made my map a little wobbly looking, my RMS was 8.10964 I chose about 15 points for it. I kept my transparency for the maps at 25% since it gave the road and buildings a heftier look.

week 5

I have to say this weeks stumped me. First of all I had issues with my Adobe program, not allowing me to view the lab. Second, all the maps I could find on Columbia County fl were not showing up in my raster data in arc map. I think this might of been due to the conversion issue. Third, all my hydrography and DEMs were just a small portion of the county and not covering the whole boundary. I did not know if I was supposed to download 10 other DEMs to cover the whole thing or just load one (which is what I did). I attempted to present the data that I thought made the Map most readable, unfortunately due to the availability of the maps I did not include cities, public land or invasive plants. Hopefully for me next week won't be this challenging.
On this map I have the roads listed in black, the evalation is for the city of Columbia. The two hydrography polygon are at 50% transpancy and cover the Big Gum swamp wetland , and the Benton wetlands. The city in the middle of the map is Lake city with a population of about 10,000 this city which is well known for its I-10, I-75 intersection.

Mass Eeodus Haiti

I found this yahoo, I liked it due to the all the locations that the people of Haiti are going to be traveling to after the earthquake. The displaced people in areas other than Port Au Prince are a major concern. Suddenly areas will see a dramatic influx of people who need aid and housing and they probably do not have the facilities to accommodate them.

Week 4 Map Projections

This map gives you a visual, and area type decription of the three different types of map projections. Arcmap and I were at a stale mate on this one. I could not for the life of me figure out how to change the color of the selected counties, and put them into a legend. I ended up just putting them all into text boxes and typing everything in by hand. But I did learn that you can align, change the fount, change the size; of every text box at once by using the control button and selecting them all at the same time.

Week 3 map 3

This map shows the Evelation differences in Mexico. I liked this feature alot since I like seeing the mountain ranges/ sink holes all over the desert. I did have some trouble trying to change the back ground from white to purple (arcmap won that battle), and I had issues with accdentaly placing the wrong layer on top of the evelation layer. Thankfully I figured that one out.

Week 3 map 2

This map shows the major/primary rivers, federal roads, urban areas and railroad tracks. Also a few of the major urban areas are labled with there names. In additon to having trouble with converting the lables to annotations. I found out the hard way, you have to make sure you have "layer features in this layer" selected in the lables tab in layer properties. I was also having trouble with the Legend showing the "RANK" of the major roads. I eventually just typed in a space in the header section and it came up blank, although it still showed a space where it would be in the legend.

Week 3 map 1

This map is of Mexico by its populations, seperated by its states. I did not have much trouble with the map other than the colors. You see that I got stuck on Watermelon theme for some reason.

World countries by population

This map includes the worlds populations by the small (light yellow) to large (blue, and purple). also the cities are indicated by the small black squares. The only trouble I had with this map was making go to landscape view. I had to resize the map itself and fit it to the layout view.

Youth Center

I think the Youth center should go where the bottom left two sites are.

My San Diego Trip

This was fun!, I wanted to Change the colors and highlight the route to the zoo, but I will take it easy for now. No need to get ahead of myself.
